After years of marketing and branding in the entertainment and cable industries, I decided to channel that experience as well as my passion for design into opening Studio Maxe, an independent design studio located in the foothills of Claremont, California (by way of Chicago).
Through my career as a designer and marketing professional, I have had the opportunity to create designs and campaigns for such brands as Music Choice, Starz Entertainment, American Heart Association, AARP, Soul Train, Esri and Johnson Publishing Company (Ebony Magazine). However, it was my passion for music that lead me to Studio Maxe.
I feel there has always been a synergy between graphic design and music. They both move and inspire emotion. Three years ago, I decided to tap into that synergy by engaging in a personal challenge I now call, “30 in 30”. I challenged myself to create 30 posters in 30 days. The theme I chose to focus on for this exercise was old school hip hop. Many of those posters are featured in my store. In fact, the very first one was my reinterpretation of the Beastie Boy’s, “Paul Revere”.
Once the exercise was completed, I decided to take a chance and place some of my posters on Etsy. I thought it would be a great way to get some feedback. Fast forward 3 years later, I am proud to say those prints blossomed into a successful poster and t-shirt design business. Most of all, I have created a platform that allows me to show respect and pay homage to the artist who inspired me. And in return, I hope I am able to inspire others.
